NG Bailey is the largest independent engineering, construction and services company in the UK. The company is divided into three businesses: Engineering; Services; and Infrastructure & IT Services.

NG Bailey did not previously have a planning analytics tool in place; the finance team were hand-balling information from one spreadsheet to another, resulting in inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the data. From the outset the finance director of the engineering business was clear about the objectives: monitor projects, manage overheads, compare spend against budgets and fully understand the cost base and how the organisation could become more efficient.

After only a few weeks the team had got to grips with the tool and were able to use it with little input from Spitfire Analytics. The finance team have extended how they use IBM® Planning Analytics and now also use it to understand and manage all of their business data, including key metrics across the business: managing people; health and safety; plant; cash flow and overall business performance.

Spitfire Analytics helped NG Bailey integrate multiple finance departments into a single solution. The automation of management accounts across the group now allows finance staff to fulfil the job they were trained for rather than just staging data.
